The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long been a popular option in the market for small luxury sedans because it provides both the high-end features and the status that consumers seek in the segment. But in a market that was swiftly evolving, the sedan underwent a makeover in 2022 as customers demanded ever-more-advanced technology and alternative power trains to go along with opulent interiors and amenities. In light of this, Mercedes-Benz could be falling short.

The updated C300 has a lot to offer, including a fashionable new appearance, a cutting-edge powertrain that offers quick acceleration and respectable fuel efficiency, agile handling, and the necessary upmarket interior packed with technology and gadgets. However, it also appears to be going through an identity crisis, unsure of how it fits in with established rivals like Audi and BMW or upstarts like Genesis, Tesla, and even Mercedes’ own EQ line of electric cars.

Things you will like

  1. Powerful Engine

A 48-volt mild hybrid system and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine make up the new basic powertrain, which produces 255 horsepower in total. When paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the mild hybrid system helps with low-end oomph and makes power delivery smooth from a stop.

  1. Easily Moves About

The C300 can hold its own against any similar, non-performance competitor in the class, such as an Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series, in terms of handling. With the optional AMG Line With Night Package, the new C300 feels quick and fast in corners and gains a sport suspension, a thick and gripping steering wheel, and other features. (Unfortunately, there isn’t much feel to the steering.)

  1.  Outstanding Instrumentation

One of the improved technological features of the upgraded C300 is the new digital instrument panel. The display is bright, vivid, and simple to view with simple adjustments. It functions effectively even if it may not be very unique compared to other digital instruments made by other manufacturers. Simple-to-use voice instructions are another benefit.

  1. A Good Bet

The updated C-Class received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ certification, the highest accolade the organization bestows. This indicates that it performed exceptionally well in a number of crash tests, that all trims have headlight ratings that are at least adequate, and that the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian accident prevention systems have high ratings.

Things We Might Not Like

  1. Hard Brakes

A performance braking system with drilled rotors and calipers bearing the Mercedes emblem is also included with the AMG Line With Night Package. The end product seems professional, but Normile discovered that the device offered little sensation and needed extensive pedal travel. That makes it challenging to carry out a smooth halt.

  1. Brutal Ride

Since the test vehicle’s winter tires had a softer substance and a higher sidewall than more performance-focused tires, the ride quality was unsatisfactory. The C300 gave a ride that was brittle, rough, and anything from pleasurable in place of a squishy one.

  1. A Different Reality

The exhaust system provides a healthy-sounding low rumble when tuned to its sportiest level, at least for those inside. Outside of the automobile, the synthetic sound is hardly audible. Another strange design feature is the car’s rear bumper’s large but phony exhaust tips; the real exhaust tips lie underneath the vehicle. These frivolous additions detract from any elite pedigree.

  1. Issues with the cabin

From a comfort and usefulness perspective, the C300’s interior left us wanting. The difficulty of establishing a comfortable driving posture and the constrained space in the backseat were complaints made by several editors. The new 11.9-inch touchscreen, which eliminates the majority of tactile controllers, is one of the other complaints. Another source of annoyance is the MBUX multimedia system since it is cumbersome and difficult to operate.
