Daimler invented a one-cylinder, vertical gasoline engine in 1885. He then inserted the engine onto a bicycle-inspired wooden frame. The machine was known as the “Daimler Reitwagen” (riding wagon) or “Einspur” (single track) in German. It is now regarded as one of the first genuine motorbikes.

Bertha Benz, Benz’s wife, later drove the automobile on a 130-mile tour journey around Germany with their two boys. This was the first-ever globe road trip, and the automobile was a 954-cc single-piston car with a four-stroke engine pumping a blistering 0.9 horsepower – which was incredibly powerful for the time. Among other interesting Mercedes facts, Karlz Benz was the first person in the world to obtain a driver’s license, in addition to being the developer of the world’s first vehicle.

Most Benz race cars, as well as several unique and flagship vehicles, are silver in color. Having said that, among other Mercedes trivia, the silver race vehicle was an on-the-spot improvisation. According to Mercedes history, a white W 25 Mercedes-Benz race vehicle with an aluminum body had to be under 750 kg to compete in 1934 at the Nürburgring (a motorsport facility in Germany), but it was a kilo overweight.

As a result, the racing crew opted to remove the car’s paint right then and there, resulting in a silver racer Benz that won the race. Since then, the color silver has been synonymous with the manufacturer.
