Employer.com Acquires Bench, Reviving Accounting Platform for Thousands of Customers
In a surprise move, , a San Francisco-based HR tech company, has acquired Bench, the VC-backed accounting startup that abruptly shut down last week, leaving thousands of customers locked out of their accounts. The acquisition ensures that Bench customers will be able to access their data and continue using the platform, with the option to port their data or keep their service under new ownership.
A New Chapter for Bench Customers
Employer.com chief marketing officer, Matt Charney, confirmed that the company will revive Bench’s platform and provide instructions for customers to log in and obtain their data. This move comes as a relief to Bench’s customers, who were previously advised to file for a six-month extension with the Internal Revenue Service to find a new bookkeeper.
A Smooth Transition
Employer.com has assured Bench customers that they will be able to continue working with the same expert in-house bookkeepers they know and trust. The acquisition also opens the door to future enhancements and capabilities powered by Employer.com extensive resources.
A Complex Acquisition
The acquisition is not without its challenges. Bench employed over 600 people, many of whom were let go after the shutdown notice. However, Employer.com is starting to call back “many” of Bench’s employees to ensure continuity and provide support to customers.
A New Beginning for Bench
The acquisition marks a new beginning for Bench, which had been in operation for 13 years. Employer.com CEO, Jesse Tinsley, has a track record of acquiring and growing companies in the HR space, and this acquisition is expected to further expand Employer.com offerings.
What’s Next for Bench Customers?
Bench customers can expect to receive instructions on how to access their data and continue using the platform in the coming days. Employer.com has committed to providing a seamless transition and ensuring that customers continue to receive the high-quality service they have come to expect from Bench.
