When looking to buy a laptop or computer, you should be aware of several typical difficulties to prevent purchasing a counterfeit one.

Here are some strategies to help you prevent any of these problems with your laptop.

  1. In Nigeria, we frequently believe that expensive items are always excellent. However, this is not always the case. First and foremost, consider why you require this. Why am I purchasing it? If it’s for the luxury, go ahead and pay whatever you want. However, if it is for a specific reason, evaluate the expense and the purpose before proceeding to the following suggestion.

  1. Check the keyboard keys or buttons: a genuine laptop should have the keys in their proper locations. If you notice anything else, it suggests it has been renovated. These are the key patterns and placements on a keyboard. QWERTY UIOP ASDFGHJKL 1234567890 The key is that the ‘2’ button also bears the symbol ‘@’. If your laptop types something other than ‘@’ when pushed, it is not the original. Take note that I mentioned ‘when pushed’ since you may see the symbol on 2 but when you touch it, something else appears (usually with the button containing the symbols: coma, and double quotation ”). When you press the comma and double quotation buttons, you will see something different. Please keep in mind that you are looking for upper symbols such as ‘@’ on the button with 2 and ” on the button with coma. If you don’t know how to print the upper symbols, simply hold down the ‘SHIFT’ key on your keyboard and hit the button with the desired upper symbol. Another clue to look for is the backslash, which is used in conjunction with a vertical line like |. This key is situated as the third key following the ‘P’ button. Please keep in mind that keyboards differ, but what we’re looking for is that it prints the precise symbol on the screen.

  1. Examine the screen’s fitness. The laptop with a modified screen will not fit within the frame. It will also have gaps or be misaligned with the frame.

4. Stickers near the keyboard should be present on every new and original laptop. These stickers should indicate the type of processor used by the computer, such as Intel or any other. It should include the storage capacity, such as RAM or Memory, as well as other information. Other items can be added, but these are the fundamentals. These are not present in refurbished or counterfeit computers.

  1. Examine the battery. When the battery is from one business and the laptop is from another, the situation becomes complicated. As an example, the battery may come from a Dell machine, while the laptop could be an Acer model.

  1. The type of operating system it runs is shown on the label and packaging. If, after starting the computer, you discover that the operating system differs from what is mentioned on the package, the laptop is not genuine.
