Meta has announced the discontinuation of its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets, making way for the new Quest 3S. This strategic move aligns with Meta’s commitment to providing cutting-edge VR experiences at accessible price points.

The Quest 2, a popular entry-level headset, has served Meta well for several years. However, with the introduction of the Quest 3S offering a similar experience at a competitive price, it’s no surprise that Meta has decided to phase out the older model.

The Quest Pro, a premium headset designed for enterprise use, faced challenges in the market due to its higher price point. The **Quest 3** proved to be a more compelling option for many users, offering comparable features and performance at a more affordable cost.

Meta’s official statement regarding the discontinuation:

“[…] With Quest 3S on the shelf, we’re officially winding down sales of Quest 2 and Pro. We’ll be selling our remaining headsets through the end of the year or until they’re gone, whichever comes first. If you’d like a carrying case, the Touch Pro controllers, the Quest 2 Active Pack, or any of the other accessories for Quest 2 and Pro, we plan to continue selling those for a bit longer.”

While the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will no longer be available for purchase, Meta has confirmed that security patch updates for these models will continue for a period.

This announcement marks a significant milestone in Meta’s VR journey, as the company continues to focus on delivering innovative and accessible virtual reality experiences.
