A new backpack purchase is a very personal choice that deserves careful consideration.

There are countless backpacks available, but the decision is made more difficult if you also need a bag that will hold your laptop and won’t make you feel heavy.

Thankfully, computers have become thinner and lighter overall in recent years, sparing our poor bodies from having to carry around 3kg beasts and large, hefty power bricks. In spite of this, if you carry a laptop and anything else that adds weight all day, you should still consider a supportive new bag.

Backpacks exist in every imaginable size and form and may hold everything from a mouse or a charger to additional items like a lunchbox or a coat. While we took care to include a wide range of bags, each one has a designated slot or sleeve inside to handle a laptop.

  1. WaterField Essential Laptop Backpack – Best laptop backpack

Laptops up to 16 inches

Contains 17 L.

The WaterField ‘Essential’ laptop bag is, well, focused on the basics, but it truly does them well.

The design is straightforward yet elegant, with a variety of colorful embellishments placed below the black body. This is strong enough to withstand the weather since it is made of water-resistant nylon and has waterproof seals around the zips. It also has a structured body that maintains its shape even when the bag is empty.

There are zipped compartments both inside and outside to keep track of your stray items, and there are outside pockets on either side to accommodate water bottles or tiny umbrellas.

With a simple velcro closure, the single cushioned and fleece-lined laptop pouch is large enough for devices up to 16 inches and 14 inches.

  1. Aer City Pack – Superb build quality

Aer, a San Francisco-based startup, makes the City Pack, one of the best laptop backpacks. The bag has premium materials, zippers, and compartments and is well-designed and well-made.

The product has a luxury feel thanks to its durable 1680D Cordura ballistic nylon exterior material, YKK zipper, and Duraflex plastic tag pulls. It’s significant that the suspended padded laptop pocket (up to 16 inches) prevents your laptop from hitting the ground when you set the backpack down. Additionally, the straps are incredibly comfortable for all-day use.

In addition to two exterior pockets, one of which has a soft lining, the front compartment features several storage spaces for organizing your belongings.

  1. Stubble & Co – Stylish & high quality

Laptops up to 16 inches

Volume: 21L

Without question, Stubble & Co. produces some of the most fashionable and expertly crafted bags available. And because they’re both so wonderful, we’ve put two here.

The first item is “The Backpack,” a simple knapsack with more pockets than you can count. Instead, it’s straightforward and functional, with just a little pocket inside and one on the front. Additionally, there are side pockets for things like water bottles.

The main compartment of this upgraded model is 21 L, and the enclosed area at the back can accommodate a laptop up to 16 inches wide.

  1. Bellroy Tokyo Totepack – Tote and backpack in one

Size of a laptop: up to 15in

14L or 20L capacity is available.

This backpack includes huge tote handles on the top that allow it to be carried as a tote, and the rear straps tuck neatly away.

Despite the rather unique form, this bag works best as a backpack and is pleasingly safe and comfy. We tested the bigger 20L version (there’s also a smaller 14L) and were able to store considerably more than expected, including a 15 laptop, books, headphones, keys, lunch, and spare shoes. It’s reminiscent of Mary Poppins’ bag.

5. Osprey Talon Earth 22

If you need a backpack to carry your laptop to work during the week but also want to hit the trails on the weekends, this is the one to get. In reality, with a lightweight yet supportive 1.1kg design and an adjustable back depending on your height, it’s a terrific unisex commuting bag in any case. It also accommodates a water reservoir for on-the-go drinking.

The style, whether in blue, brown, or green, is pretty striking and obviously shouts ‘outdoors,’ but if this doesn’t concern you, there’s a zippered, cushioned laptop sleeve that will easily hold a 15in tablet. However, there is a small top-load pocket and a spacious 22L main compartment.
