WhatsApp Unveils ‘Favorites’ Feature for Enhanced Contact Management
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “Favorites,” designed to streamline how users access their most important contacts and groups. This update aims to simplify the process of finding and connecting with key individuals directly from the calls tab.
The “Favorites” feature began its rollout on Tuesday and will become available to all users over the next few weeks. This addition allows users to group chats with close friends or family under one accessible section for quick and easy access. WhatsApp has also incorporated a “Favorites” section in the calls tab, enabling users to speed dial their preferred contacts without sifting through recent call logs or the contact list.
To add a contact or group to your favorites, you can select the “Favorites” filter from your chats screen or tap ‘Add favorite’ after choosing the desired contact or group from the calls tab. Alternatively, you can long-tap a chat and select ‘Add to favorite.’ Users can manage their favorite contacts and groups through Settings by navigating to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorite. This section also allows users to reorder their favorites according to their preferences at any time.
The feature was first observed being tested on iOS and the web in February by WABetaInfo, and it was later tested on Android in April.
This latest update follows the introduction of chat filters three months ago. Initially, WhatsApp offered filters such as “All,” “Unread,” and “Groups.” The addition of “Favorites” enhances the functionality of these filters, providing users with a more efficient way to call or video chat with their top contacts without needing alternative methods.
In summary, the new “Favorites” feature is a significant improvement for WhatsApp users, offering a more organized and convenient way to stay connected with the people who matter most.
