ElevenLabs, a leading developer of AI-powered text-to-speech technology, has announced the global availability of its Reader app. This expansion brings the app to users in 32 languages, significantly broadening its accessibility and appeal.
Initially launched in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, Reader allows users to transform any text content, including articles, PDFs, or e-books, into spoken audio. By selecting their desired language and voice, users can effortlessly listen to their content, making it more accessible and engaging.
ElevenLabs, a unicorn valued at $80 million, has established itself as a trusted provider of text-to-speech solutions for businesses and individuals alike. Its API powers voice interactions on various platforms, including Rabbit r1, Perplexity, PocketFM, and KukuFM. The Reader app marks the company’s first consumer-facing product.
To enhance the user experience, ElevenLabs has expanded its voice library to include hundreds of new options across various languages. Notably, the company has secured the voices of iconic actors like Judy Garland, James Dean, Burt Reynolds, and Sir Laurence Olivier, adding a touch of celebrity to the app.
The extended language support is powered by ElevenLabs’ Turbo v2.5 model, which boasts improved quality and reduced latency for text-to-speech conversion. This technological advancement further enhances the app’s capabilities and user satisfaction.
While ElevenLabs’ Reader app faces competition from other text-to-speech platforms like Speechify, it offers unique features such as document scanning, Gmail and Canvas integrations, and the ability to clone your own voice.
ElevenLabs has indicated plans to expand the Reader app’s functionality in the future, with features like offline support and audio snippet sharing on the horizon. This commitment to continuous improvement positions ElevenLabs as a frontrunner in the text-to-speech technology space.
