Did you know that you can now FaceTime with an Android or iPhone? This is the procedure.

Android consumers have been kept out of Apple’s thriving applications and services, including iMessage and FaceTime, for far too long.

In the near future, messages sent from Android devices to iPhones will still be accepted, but Apple has been a little more open with the sharing of its video-calling platform.

Apple customers may now invite their Android pals to join a video conference by sending them an invitation link, much like a one-way Zoom connection. Android users still cannot initiate a FaceTime call or download the dedicated software.

Here is a breakdown of the procedure.

  1. Verify that the iPhone user has the most recent software installed.

An Apple user must first start the FaceTime call.

The following are the prerequisites for the supported devices:

  • iOS 15 or later for iPhone
  • iOS 15 or later on an iPad
  • Mac: MacOS Monterey version 12.

  1. The exchange of FaceTime links

The sender/host is: Select the “Create Link” option in the top left corner of the FaceTime program on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You will then be given a special URL to share with a contact, regardless of the brand of their phone. For a more official or private touch, you may also add a name to the URL.

You, the recipient: When your Apple friend sends you a FaceTime invitation, click the link in your messaging app to launch a new window on your browser. When the link has fully loaded, you will be asked for your name before you may join the call.

  1. Joining the FaceTime call and accepting it

The sender/host is: Apple will immediately send a message to the recipient asking them to join your FaceTime session when you deliver the link. You will be asked to accept or reject your guest’s request for entrance once they have clicked on the invitation by selecting a tick or an X, as appropriate. Take care to check the app periodically to avoid leaving your guest waiting.

As the receiver: Now it’s your time, Android users. You may join a FaceTime with just the call link and a reliable Wi-Fi or internet connection. Simply click the green Join button after clicking the link to sign up. If everything goes as planned, your face should show up in a little box in the bottom right corner. The top-left corner of the screen will remain black and display the message “Waiting for others to join” if the call’s host hasn’t joined it yet.

  1. FaceTime as the sender or host From this point on, you may use FaceTime on your iPhone as usual. Take screenshots inside the app, add a Memoji sticker or filter, and communicate as you wish. For Android users, the usefulness is nonetheless more constrained. Later, more on that. When the call is over, simply hang up as you normally would.

You, the recipient: You won’t be able to fully utilize FaceTime from an Android smartphone, in typical Apple way. You cannot use a Memoji sticker or filter to give your call a bit more color and pop, in contrast to Apple users. Additionally, unlike an iPhone, the FaceTime screenshot button does not allow you to take pictures. However, you may manually screenshot. Additionally, the other user won’t be informed that you took a picture, unlike with an Apple iPhone. Make good use of that knowledge.
