Popster Introduces AI-Generated Artwork and Remix Features for Enhanced Music Collaboration
In the competitive landscape of music streaming and creation tools, Popster, a social music-sharing app, is introducing two new features to attract users: an AI image generator for cover art and a collaboration capability that allows artists to remix another user’s song.
Expanding Popster’s Capabilities
Originally launched last year, Popster serves as a song-creation tool and music video platform. It enables artists to connect with other musicians, create original songs and music videos, and share their work on social media. The app allows users to record video and voice directly within the platform, add stickers, and customize color backgrounds. Additionally, it offers a range of in-house created vocal effects and a community section for artist interaction.
Integrating Generative AI
Popster has embraced generative AI to enhance its offerings. The app provides tools for artists to generate lyric ideas and create new beats for vocal recordings. It also employs AI technology to improve audio quality by reducing background noise. A standout feature is the “Add a beat” tool, which lets users select genres such as Lofi Hip Hop, R&B, Indie Pop, and Slow Ballad, and choose a vibe like “Smooth” or “Normal” to create backing tracks for their vocal recordings.
Unlike some AI music apps that have faced legal challenges, Popster utilizes Mubert’s library of royalty-free tracks, ensuring compliance with copyright laws.
Introducing the “Albums” Artwork Generator
The latest addition to Popster’s generative AI tools is the “Albums” artwork generator, powered by OpenAI. This feature allows artists to input prompts to generate images that can be used as sticker overlays on their short-form videos.
This functionality adds a new level of sophistication, aiding emerging artists in presenting their new songs with visually appealing content.
Enhancing Collaboration with the “Mashup” Feature
Drawing inspiration from TikTok’s “Stitch” and “Duet” tools, Popster’s new “Mashup” feature allows artists to create remixes and collaborate with others. Artists can click the “Mashup” button under another user’s video to record their own video alongside it, facilitating creative collaborations such as adding vocals, harmonizing, or playing instruments.
Growing User Base and Engagement
Despite being in its early stages with a few thousand users, Popster has shown promising engagement metrics. Nearly 10,000 original songs have been created on the app, and users spend an average of 1.5 hours daily on the platform.
Founders and Funding
Popster was co-founded by Themis Drakonakis and Sotiris Kaniras (CTO), who have previously developed three other apps: Nup (an anonymous chat app), Self’it (a location-based photo-sharing app), and UniPad (a collaboration app for college students).

The startup has raised $280,000 from the Realize Tech Fund and is currently in the process of raising a pre-seed funding round to expand its team and enhance its video server capabilities. Future plans include launching paid features and forming partnerships with music labels.
Popster is available for download on the App Store, positioning itself as a versatile platform for artists seeking innovative ways to create, share, and collaborate on music.
