In a significant boost to the French economy, Amazon revealed plans to invest more than $1.3 billion (€1.2 billion) in its operations within the country. This investment is expected to generate over 3,000 permanent jobs.

The announcement coincides with France’s annual “Choose France” event, where companies showcase their commitment to the nation’s economic development. Amazon joins other corporations like GSK and Accenture who have pledged billions in investments.

The focus of Amazon’s investment is twofold: cloud infrastructure and logistics. Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be directing resources towards expanding cloud infrastructure in the Paris region. This move aims to support France’s burgeoning Generative AI (GenAI) sector, which is driving a surge in demand for cloud services.

France has established itself as a hub for AI innovation, attracting major players like Meta and Google to set up research centers. Promising French startups such as Mistral and Poolside are further fueling the country’s AI advancements.

Amazon’s commitment extends beyond job creation. The company boasts over 20 billion euros invested in its French operations since 2010, employing more than 22,000 permanent workers across its cloud and retail sectors.

“These additional 3,000 jobs come on top of the 2,000 positions we announced for 2024,” stated Frédéric Duval, Country Manager for Amazon France.

A portion of the investment will also be directed towards expanding Amazon’s logistics network. This expansion aims to improve delivery speed while minimizing carbon emissions. Currently, Amazon operates over 35 logistics facilities throughout France.

Amazon’s investment signifies a strong vote of confidence in the French economy, particularly its potential in the AI and technology sectors. This move is expected to create significant job opportunities and contribute to France’s continued economic growth.
