NCC orientates Oyo traders on how to reduce data usage on mobile network
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has educated business owners in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on the best ways to cut back on their use of data on mobile networks.
At the NCC third edition of Market Conversation held at Bodija International Market, Ibadan, it’s Head of Consumers Affairs, Mr. Ayanbanji Ojo, stated that high data use would occur when some programs were operating in the background.
According to the report, the market dialogue included, among other things, a campaign to raise awareness, lectures, and questions and answers.
When a customer works or watches videos on the internet rather than downloading them again and when the mobile phone geo-location feature is constantly activated, according to Ojo, data will be squandered.

He said that the NCC has made a decision to start at the market and empower consumers there.
“We are coming closer to people in the market, knowing that market people hardly have time to attend sensitisation programmes held in Town Hall and city centres because of their businesses.
“We organise this market conversation to look at specific issues affecting consumers such as how to make effective use of data, which is the main issue we are discussing here today.
“This conversation also gives us the privilege of asking consumers to highlight the challenges they face in the telecommunications industry in terms of service delivery.
“It is our responsibility in consumers affairs at NCC to ensure that we protect the consumers’ right,” he said.
