Honor has unveiled the Magic V2, its newest foldable. And the V2 shows the firm going all out to create one of the sexiest, sleekest folding phones yet, rather than just settling for being the more reasonably priced choice.

Here is everything we currently know about this high-end smartphone that will hopefully leave China.

When was Honor Magic V2 released worldwide?

On July 12, 2023, in Beijing, Honor formally announced the launch of the Honor Magic V2 in China.

The first Honor Magic V was never exported outside of its native country, but the succeeding Honor Magic Vs was first released in China in November 2022 and then released internationally in February 2023, but not in North America.

If Honor continues on this path, the Magic V2 might arrive in Europe sometime in the fall, albeit ideally earlier. Unlikely is a US launch.

How much does it cost?

The Magic V2 starts at 8,999 yuan ($1,250/£970) in China and costs up to 11,999 yuan ($1,670/£1,290) for the Ultimate model with a built-in pen.

That isn’t always a reliable indicator of how much any foreign release will cost, which will probably be more.

The previous Honor Magic Vs was somewhat cheaper than its primary competitors, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 ($1,799/£1,649/€1,799) and the Pixel Fold ($1,799/£1,749/€1,899), at the time of introduction, costing £1,399/€1,599 (about $1,690).

At the very least, the Magic V2 will undoubtedly cost that much or much more.

What about the features and style of the Honor Magic V2?

The Magic V2’s design rather than its internal components is what stands out the most.

With a folded thickness of only 9.9mm and a weight of 231g, this huge foldable is the smallest and lightest one yet. That is far thinner than anything Samsung has so far put out and even smaller than the Huawei Mate X3.

It will be offered in China in three hues: black, gold, and purple.

However, there are three other black variants available, including a “Silk Black” model covered in vegan leather and a “Ultimate Black” model with upscale accents like a gilded Honor logo.

Of course, there are two displays. A 7.92-inch foldable OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO technology for refresh rate scaling is within. It has a 2344 x 2156 resolution and even supports a pen, finally catching up to Samsung in that regard, albeit it is only packaged with the Ultimate model.

The 6.43-inch OLED display features the same 120Hz LTPO technology with a resolution of 2376 x 1060 on the exterior. A stylus is also supported.

Internally, the phone is propelled by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 16GB of RAM. Storage capacity ranges from 256GB in the base model to a staggering 1TB in the Ultimate.

Despite how thin the phone is overall, the 5000mAh battery is sizable, and the 66W cable charging is also rather quick.

Regarding the cameras, you can see that the back has a triple-lens configuration. A 50Mp, f/1.9 primary camera, a 50Mp, f/2.0 ultrawide, and a 20Mp, f/2.4 telephoto make up this device. Additionally, each display contains a 16Mp, f/2.2 punch-hole selfie camera.

The only thing left to do is wait to learn if the phone will ever be released outside of China. In the meanwhile, familiarize yourself with the Magic V2’s competition by reading our guide to the best foldable phones.
