Why you should buy the new iPhone 15

The newest iteration of Apple’s yearly upgrade cycle, the iPhone 15, went on sale on Friday.

The most significant modification is a redesigned charging port. You’d be excused for doubting whether it’s worthwhile to spend hundreds of pounds on an upgrade, though, when the most significant change is one that has been mandated by EU authorities.

Goodbye, Lightning port.
The new iPhone has mostly been discussed in relation to changes to the charging port. Apple is adopting USB-C in line with the rest of the industry after 11 years with the Lightning connection and the sale of billions of cords.

The EU, which believed that adopting a uniform norm would be beneficial for consumers, has mandated the move. Apple resisted the change but eventually failed. Despite the fact that it could seem insignificant, it has a big effect.

Improved cameras
There are some significant camera enhancements, as usual. Thanks to improved sensors and sophisticated AI working in the background, the basic iPhone 15 now captures superior zoomed-in pictures.

Due to a number of mirrors that are secretly housed inside the phone, the most costly model, the 15 Pro Max, now offers an incredible 5x optical zoom. All smartphones can now snap portrait images without your needing to enable it in the camera app; you can simply take a regular shot and afterward enable portrait mode in the photos app.

The cameras, however, have long been adequate for the majority of individuals. When you upgraded your phone three or four years ago, you got a revolutionary new camera. The steadily improved camera is now just great to have.

Exterior improvements
The Pro variants are now significantly lighter thanks to a titanium body and a slimmer screen bezel. Please put protection on your phone even though the less expensive versions come in various new colors.

On that topic, Apple has abandoned leather casings in favor of material it refers to as “FineWoven” as part of its environmental effort. At £59, it’s difficult to suggest purchasing one because it is readily scratched and scuffed and feels a few notches below more expensive models.

The camera is turned on by default, and Do Not Disturb is turned on, but Apple’s shortcuts setting makes it completely customizable. You may now have a dedicated calculator button or a quick selfie mode if you’ve always desired them.

Do you want to purchase it?
Since a few years ago, it has been true that if you already own a one- or two-year-old iPhone, there is little purpose in upgrading. The majority of users usually update after their battery almost stops functioning, their screen cracks, or their CPU is so severely overtaxed that it takes 30 seconds to launch WhatsApp. This year is no exception to the buying recommendations.

But if you’re a buyer on the fence debating whether to buy now or wait another year, there’s enough here to make it worthwhile to make the purchase. If you’re upgrading from a phone that isn’t the iPhone 12 from 2020, USB-C ensures that the device is virtually future-proof. This is because Apple keeps making little improvements to the screen, camera, and CPU every year.

The base model of the iPhone 15 costs £799, the 15 Plus starts at £899, while the Pro and Pro Max variants cost £999 and $1,199, respectively.
