A key pillar of the initiative involves skilling up the Malaysian workforce in AI. Microsoft plans to equip 200,000 individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the world of AI. This investment in human capital development will create a talent pool that can support the burgeoning AI ecosystem in Malaysia.
Microsoft’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure and skills development. The company will collaborate with the Malaysian government to establish a national AI Centre of Excellence.
This center will serve as a hub for research, development, and innovation in the field of AI, further propelling Malaysia’s progress in this critical domain. Additionally, Microsoft will partner with the government to bolster the country’s cybersecurity capabilities.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Microsoft’s investment, recognizing it as a catalyst for Malaysia’s aspirations in the realm of AI.
This announcement follows similar initiatives by Microsoft in Southeast Asia, including a $1.7 billion investment in Indonesia and the establishment of the first regional data center in Thailand. These investments demonstrate Microsoft’s unwavering commitment to empowering the digital transformation journey across the region.
