Showdown of gaming consoles: PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and more
It’s no longer necessary to organize your buddies behind a single gaming platform. Cross-platform play has made it possible to select your system based only on personal taste or, as the recent PlayStation 5 shortages have shown us, simple availability.
The capabilities that modern consoles provide are astounding, ranging from the fast speeds of the newest PlayStation to the adaptability of the Xbox Series X.
The cost of gaming technological advancements might, however, be rather costly. If you’re unsure about which gaming console to buy, take a look at the top recommendations below.
- PlayStation 5
Specifications for the PlayStation 5: 8 Core AMD Zen 2-Based CPU with 3.5GHz clock speed, Oberon CXD90044GB GPU, 825GB of internal storage, and a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc
You know your console is good when you can’t keep it on the shelf even two years after you originally launched it. This is the case with the PlayStation 5. The high demand for this next-generation console throughout the world, along with chip shortages, has made it difficult for many to purchase one.
You can feel every stride, gunshot, and surrounding movement with the new PS5 controller, giving you complete control over your game experience. Because of its haptic feedback, customizable triggers, and built-in microphone, this controller is the best we’ve seen for console gaming.
There are two versions available: one with a disc drive and one without. In general, the digital edition sells out faster since it is less expensive. If you try to buy one on Amazon, stocks go out immediately.
- Xbox Series X specifications include the following: | Internal Storage: 1TB | Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blue-ray Drive | CPU: Custom Zen 2 CPU with 8 Cores at 3.8GHz | Custom RDNA 2 GPU: 12 TFLOPs, 52 CUs at 1.825GHz
When the next-generation consoles debuted, the PlayStation 5 quickly became the dominant gaming system.
Although the Xbox Series X falls short in terms of competitive gaming, it excels in terms of adaptability. With its library of applications, which includes the majority of the leading streaming services, the Xbox Series X may be used as a premium game console or as an expensive Fire Stick.
The Xbox One-exclusive games may be played on the Series X system, but Microsoft has produced titles for the Series X and S consoles that load quicker and support 120 frames per second. You may experience 3D spatial audio while gaming with such a high frame rate so you always know what’s around you.
This console is the ideal option if you’re searching for a strong system that you can get right away because it is less difficult to obtain than the PlayStation 5. This console ticks all the boxes, allowing you to play games with pals across the world and binge-watch your favorite shows.

- Nintendo Switch OLED
Nintendo Switch OLED specifications 1GHz Cortex-A57 processor, Nvidia Tegra X1 graphics chip, 64GB of internal storage, and no optical drive.
The Nintendo Switch is operating differently from other gaming consoles in a world where most gamers prioritize purchasing powerful displays or the largest TV.
You may play The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, watch YouTube on your TV or play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to compete against your pals in races. If you want to enjoy relaxed games on your Switch, try Stardew Valley or Potion Permit.
The places you can play the Switch vary as much as the things you can do with it.
According to Nintendo, the battery will last between 4.5 and 9 hours. As you can see, there’s a big range, but in my experience, it seems about right. If I play less graphically taxing games like This War of Mine, I can move closer to the top of this estimation.
- Steam Deck
Specifications for the Steam Deck: AMD APU Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz; 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz; 64/256/512GB of internal storage; analog sticks; 7-inch display; 60Hz refresh rate;
Our top recommendation for gaming consoles, if you enjoy Steam, is Valve’s Steam Deck. With millions of gamers now, Steam is a well-liked gaming platform for both AAA and independent games.
In the past, accessing your library would have required you to be tethered to your workstation, tower PC, or laptop; however, the Steam Deck, which was introduced last year, has changed the rules. The analog sticks and top controls are comfortable and familiar, and the UI is user-friendly. The visuals are amazing and, in my opinion, significantly superior to the Nintendo Switch while playing resource-intensive games.
